Collemassari & Grattamacco

The ColleMassari Group is a Tuscan winery group managed by the Tipa and Bertarelli families, who established ColleMassari in Montecucco in 1998. In 2002, they acquired Grattamacco, the second oldest winery in Bolgheri, and now own a total of four wineries. Grattamacco and ColleMassari are both pioneers, contributing to the development of their respective areas, Bolgheri and Montecucco, each with its own distinct characteristics.

Grattamacco was founded in 1977 and is the second oldest winery in the Bolgheri region.

Shortly after its establishment, Grattamacco became the first in Bolgheri to cultivate Vermentino. The old Vermentino vines produce high-quality white wines with complexity and concentration. In Bolgheri, where the majority of the land is flat, Grattamacco’s vineyards benefit from a privileged location on gently rolling hills. There, they grow high-quality Sangiovese, which is difficult to cultivate on the flatlands of Bolgheri. This Sangiovese is blended to create Grattamacco, a Super Tuscan that offers a unique contrast to the internationally renowned Sassicaia and Ornellaia, which are made from international varieties only.
